Oklahoma City Thunder vs Houston Rockets

  • Preview

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets open up their season Wednesday night. The Oklahoma City Thunder were able to finish as the 5th seed before falling to the Rockets. The Rockets finished their season as the 4th seed before falling to the Lakers who would go on to win the finals.

The Thunder have decided to go in a completely different direction by parting ways with key players such as Chris Paul, Steven Adams, Danilo Gallinari, Dennis Schroder and head coach Billy Donovan. The OKC Thunder have brought in Al Horford, Trevor Ariza, George Hill, and Head Coach Mark Daigneault. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the only starter mode from last season making it evident that Thunder intends to build around him.

With the James Harden situation, it remains to be seen how the locker room will deal with the situation and if they can block out the drama heading forward. The Rockets are rebooting into a new area after parting ways with Coach Mike D'Antoni, and their superstar Russell Westbrook in exchange for John Wall, with James Harden still lingering on the trade block. Also to note the Rockets have added a healthy Demarcus Cousins as a way to move away from their small-ball style from a year ago.

The Rockets are simply the more talented team for the time being until they part ways with Harden and even still that won't be enough as long as John Wall and Boogie can stay healthy. The Rockets were able to display their capabilities in the preseason with their natural talents which was especially important for guys like John Wall and Cousins who have dealt with injuries all throughout their careers. The Rockets should have no problem covering 7 points against a team that is entering a rebuild.
